Vitamin C in Orange

Orange is famous fruit in the world, Orange is the largest citrus fruits found in the world and widely grown across the globe. In the US, about 25 billion oranges are cultivated every year, and the fruit is the fourth-most popular fruit in the country. Every body know about this fruit, and it is the most favourite fruit for some people. Orange is from Asia, and it’s believed that it is from china. Orange has great commercial importance and are cultivated in warm and tropical climatic conditions. This fruit has been cultivated in Indonesia for hundred years and many varieties of oranges are sold in all provinces in our country. The sweet oranges are the most commonly grown. Local varieties orange that are cultivated in Indonesia are tangerine oranges, siem orange such as siem Pontianak, siem garut, and siem lumajang, sweet oranges, lemon oranges, and the big oranges such as nambangan-madiun oranges and grapefruit.
Cultivation centre of oranges in Indonesia is in Garut (west java), Tawangmangu (central java), Batu (east java), Tejakula (Bali), Selayar (South Sulawesi), Pontianak (West Kalimantan) dan Medan (North Sumatera), but because of virus attack, some cultivation areas get decreased production.
In 100 g orange there is 49 mg ascorbat acid. Orange also contains calory, calcium, potassium, magnesium and Vitamin B6 and the different varieties oranges have different amount of these contents. Orange is rich in vitamin C, which is needed by the human body. Vitamin C content in this fruit is various among varieties, but it between 27-49 mg/100 g edible portion. Vitamin C is an antioxidant which boosts the body's immune system, body's iron absorption capacity, it also reduces the risk of heart diseases and facilitates healing of wounds. Vitamin C also help body to against cancer attack. The result of some researches showed that high consumption of the fruit and vegetable has better protection effect to cancer than supplement food. Some epidemiologic researches had showed significant relation between Vitamin C consumption and death risk by cardiovascular diseases.
Deficiency of vitamin C can lead to scurvy (bleeding of the gums). Since vitamin C is not produced by the body, its supply has to be fed into the body on a regular basis. Besides vitamin C, orange is also rich in fiber which helps increase the level of good cholesterol in the blood, regulates the blood sugar levels and helps in preventing colon cancer.
There are a lot of orange products that we can consume. These are fresh fruits, jam, and juices. But the most ideal product is juices because of their high water contents (70-92%) and juices contain of vitamin, mineral, fiber, sugar, and fitochemistry compound. By drinking juices, many varieties of orange can be consumed any time, without caring about the season.
